HebronSoft had a challenge of creating a mobile bank based on a Blockchain technology. Key DevOps challenges were to have a robust platform that could automatically scale and show high effectiveness even under high load. Blockchain offers a secure decentralized environment where specific nodes don’t trust each other, but communicate to reach consensus on whether the data from one of them was correct or not. In this situation it is important to always have a good number of nodes online, and never go below a certain minimum that’s required to reach consensus. The technical part included having a number of load-balancers managing the backend API nodes, all watched by a separate watchdog service. Everything sensitive or prone to risk hidden behind a Bastion host. Running along with a watchdog are Prometheus for real time 24/7 monitoring services, and specific spikes of activities are investigated by heavy logging which is later gathered and processed by Splunk. The platform was able to withstand 3rd party stress tests, scale up almost immediately on incoming spikes of activity, and scale down when the activity decreased.
